Exhibition at TORi Kanazawa, Japan
In April, I was invited to exhibit at the TORi gallery in Kanazawa, Japan. The TORI / NOW gallery specializes in vintage Scandinavian furniture and frequently hosts pop-up events and exhibitions.
For this exhibition, I curated a Danish-inspired home ambiance using furniture and items from Tori gallery’s extensive selection of vintage pieces. It felt like being a child in a candy store, choosing iconic designs from our design history to showcase alongside my art. These included pieces like “Boligen’s Byggeskabe,” a shelving and cabinet system designed in the 1950s by architect Børge Mogensen and designer Grethe Meyer; the BM61 Chair in cane wicker, also by Børge Mogensen; lamps designed by Verner Panton; and items by Finnish designer Timo Sarpaneva, among others.
I exhibited handwoven paper wall hangings, limited editions from my machine-woven linen collection, and my new designs, the “Shuttle Rug” and “Heddle Throw,” created for Karakter Copenhagen.
Additionally, we screened a film by Maya Matsuura, documenting the creative process behind my works over the past four years.
My host, Masaki Nashino, and his wonderful family organized a delightful opening event, welcoming so many enthusiastic and curious visitors to the exhibition.
We were also fortunate that the cherry blossoms bloomed just in time for the opening, transforming Kanazawa Boulevard, where TORI is located, with the beauty of trees in full bloom.
I couldn’t have wished for more. Thank you, Masaki Nashino, for inviting me. I look forward to collaborating with you in the future
